CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

COMMUNITY
From the early design phase, priority was given to protecting existing infrastructure, networks, communications, transportation systems and cultural heritage, while ensuring that the region’s future development plans remain unaffected. All stages of the project were carried out in close cooperation and consultation with national authorities and local stakeholders (Regional Unit, Municipality, Port Authority, Fire Brigade, General Secretariat for Civil Protection, etc.), ensuring transparency, accountability and effectiveness.
The impact of the project goes beyond strengthening energy security. It contributes positively to local development and the economy by creating new jobs, supporting local entrepreneurship and providing access to competitive energy. Particular emphasis is placed on training and developing the local workforce, ensuring that the community directly benefits from the opportunities generated. At the same time, project-related initiatives promote tourism and highlight the region through scientific and educational activities.
These initiatives are at the heart of Gastrade’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, “Energy for the Future”, which focuses on empowering young people, fostering collaboration and driving progress within the local community.
Our aspiration is to be an active part of the city that hosts us and to be present in the moments that matter to the local community. With every initiative we undertake, we foster relationships of trust and cooperation, bringing energy to our shared future.
With respect, consistency and responsibility, we continue to support the region, helping build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable society, especially for the generations to come.
NATURAL GAS
By replacing more polluting fuels such as oil and lignite with natural gas, a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy source, the project contributes substantially to lowering the carbon footprint of the country’s energy sector and to advancing the transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
Specifically, the use of natural gas:
- Almost eliminates sulphur dioxide (SO₂) emissions,
- Reduces nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) emissions by up to 30%,
- Lowers carbon monoxide (CO) emissions by up to 50%,
- Reduces particulate matter (PM) emissions by up to 70%.
At the same time, the use of natural gas also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon dioxide (CO₂), emissions are reduced by approximately 30% compared to oil combustion and by up to 45% compared to coal combustion.

ENVIRONMENT
Safety and environmental protection are fundamental priorities for Gastrade S.A. At the LNG Terminals we develop, modern technologies and the strictest standards required by Greek and European legislation are applied.
The Company implements an extensive environmental monitoring programme across the wider area, a pioneering practice for Greek territory. The programme is based on specialised Monitoring Plans designed to record all environmental parameters in detail and to preserve the ecological status of marine ecosystems through biological indicators and bioacoustic measurements.
Within the framework of these plans, the Company conducts periodic inspections, the results of which confirm the project’s full compliance with the specific environmental and ecological requirements of the area.
